Area of the trapezoid = 1/2(a+b)h

a and b are the sides

h is the height

Substitute the given values

Area of the trapezoid = 1/2(8+b)*4

24 = 1/2(8+b)*4

2(24) = (8+b) * 4

48 = 32 + 4b

4b = 48-32

4b = 16

b = 16/4

b = 4feet

Hence the window on top is 4feet wide
