Yes, chlorophyll in plant cells causes photosynthesis.

Chlorophyll is responsible for absorbing light (sunlight) which is a requirement for the process of photosynthesis. It is located in the plant's chloroplast where photosynthesis occurs. The light absorbed in the chlorophyll is combined with carbon dioxide and water in order to produce a plant's food (glucose/ sugar).
