You can identify that there are two Right triangles:


\begin{gathered} \Delta KLM \\ \Delta JLI \end{gathered}

You can solve this exercise assuming that both triangles are similar. By definition, if the ratios of the lengths of the corresponding sides of two figures are equal, then they are Similar.

Knowing the above, you can set up the following proportion:


\begin{gathered} (4+4)/(4)=(k)/(3) \\ \\ \end{gathered}

Now you can solve for "k":


\begin{gathered} (8)/(4)=(k)/(3) \\ \\ 2\cdot3=k \\ \\ k=6 \\ \end{gathered}

The answer is:


k=6
