the Operations with fractions

Sofia began her job with 3/4 of the tank of gas in her car.

Later when she finished the job, there was still 1/4 of the tank of gas left

This means that she used in the pizza delivery the difference between these two fractions:

gas used = initial gas - final gas

For example, if there were 10 lts at first time and there were2 lts left, she would have used 10 - 2 = 8 lts

Now let's operate both fractions:

gas used = 3/4 - 1/4

(3)/(4)-(1)/(4)=(3-1)/(4)=(2)/(4)

This fraction can be simplified because both parts are even, i.e. divisible by 2

Thus:

(2)/(4)=(1)/(2)

Answer: Sofia used 1/2 of the tank
