An object with a mass of 11.8 kg is moving with a velocity of 8.5 m/s. It hits a bat and rebounds with a new velocity of 4.6 m/s. What is the change in momentum of the ball?

We will have that the change in momentum is given by:

\Delta p=(11.8kg)(4.6m/s)-(11.8kg)(8.5m/s)\Rightarrow\Delta p=54.28kg\cdot m/s-100.3kg\cdot m/s
\Rightarrow\Delta p=-46.02kg\cdot m/s

So, the chage in momentum of the ball is -46.02 kg*m/s.
