To find the mean, multiply each mark by its corresponding frequency. Then, add the products. Finally, divide the sum by the total frequency, which is 40.


\begin{gathered} 1*3=3 \\ 2*5=10 \\ 3*6=18 \\ 4*9=36 \\ 5*5=25 \\ 6*2=12 \\ 7*6=42 \\ 8*4=32 \end{gathered}
3+10+18+36+25+12+42+32=178
178/40=4.45

So the mean mark for the distribution is 4.45.
