a) True (4,3) is a solution.

b) False

d) False

e) False

1) To verify a solution is to plug each x, and y into each function and see if this s true

a) (4,3)

y=0.5x +1

3 =0.5(4)+1

3 =2+1

3=3 true

y=0.6x+0.6

3=0.6(4)+0.6

3=2.4 +0.6

3=3 true

b) (-4,0)

y=0.5x +2 ⇒ 0 = 0.5(-4) +2 0 = -2+2 0=0 true

y= -4/3x+2 ⇒ 0= -4/3(-4) +2 0 ≠ -22/3 false

d) (3,-2)

y=-5x+13 ⇒ -2 = -5(3)+13 ⇒ -2 = -15 +13 ⇒ -2 = -3 false

y=7/3x-9

e) (-3.5, -1.5)

y=2.5x +7.25 ⇒ -1.5=2.5(-3.5) +7.25 ⇒ -1.5 =-1.5

y=-2.5x -10.25⇒ -1.5 = 2.5(-3.5) -10.25 ⇒ -1.5≠ 19

As we can see a valid solution must satisfy both equations. So the answer is

a) True

b) False

d) False

e) False
