The first step is to convert each mixed number to improper fraction.

5 5/8 becomes 45/8

2 1/4 becomes 9/4

The expression would be

45/8 divides 9/4

If we interchange the denominator of 9/4 for its numerator, 9/4 becomes 4/9. This is called its reciprocal. This means that the symbol of division would change to multiplication. It becomes

45/8 * 4/9 = 5/2

Converting back to mixed number, it becomes 2 1/2

The answer is 2 1/2
