1. Given the reaction :

• C + 2H2 → CH4

• Mass of CH4 = 104.1g

,

• Molar mass methane(CH4) = 12 + (1*4)= 16g/mol

2. Calculate moles of methane

n = Mass/Mol Mass

= 104.2g/ 16g/mol

=6.5125moles of methane .

3. Determine moles of hydrogen based on molar proportion:

2 moles of hydrogen : 1 mole Methane

so, x moles of hydrogen : 6.5125moles

therefore , molesof hydrogen = 6.5125* 2 /1

=13.025 moles of hydrogen .

= 13.0 moles

This means that 13.0 moles of hydrogen is needed to produce 104.2g CH4
