16) When a sample of gas with a volume of 639.8 mL and a pressure of 0.986 atm was heated from 19.38 °C to 46.34 °C, its volume become 690.5 mL. What is the final pressure in atm? Keep the answer with 2 decimal places

Step 1

It is assumed that the gas is ideal.

All variables vary from condition 1 to condition 2.

--------------

Step 2

The formula used here:

P1 x V1/T1 = P2x V2/T2 (1)

P pressure

T temperature

V volue-

------

Condition 1:

P1 = 0.986 atm

T1 absolute = 19.38 °C + 273 = 292.38 K

V1 = 639.8 mL

------

Condition 2:

P2 = unknown

T2 = 46.34 °C + 273 = 319.34 K

V2 = 690.5 mL

--------------

Step 3

P2 is cleared from (1):

P1 x V1/T1 x (T2/V2) = 0.986 atm x 639.8 mL/292.38 K x (319.34 K/690.5 mL = 0.99 atm

Answer: P2 = 0.99 atm
