We want to find x.

With respect to the 60 degree angle, we have the side that is opposite and the side adjacent.

The trig ratio, tangent, relates opposite to adjacent. Thus, we can write:


\begin{gathered} \tan \theta=\frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{adjacent}} \\ \tan 60=(x)/(8) \\ \tan 60*8=x \\ x=\sqrt[]{3}*8 \\ x=8\sqrt[]{3} \end{gathered}
