Let

x -----> cups of coffee sold

y ----> cups of hot chocolate sold

we have that

the ratio is

x/y=17/3

x=(17/3)y -------> equation A

x=406+y ------> equation B

solve the system of equations

equate equation A and equation B

(17/3)y=406+y

solve for y

Multiply by 3 both sides to remove the fraction

17y=1218+3y

17y-3y=1218

14y=1218

y=87

Find out the value of x

x=406+y ------> x=406+87 ------> x=493

therefore

the answer is

493 cups of coffee

87 cups of hot chocolate
