if you're confused, here's a brief run down; each side of a square is the same length, since that's one of the properties of a square. the perimeter is the border of the shape, or the length of all of the outsides. since a square has four sides, and all the of the sides are the same length, you can effectively multiply one of the sides by four to get the perimeter. this doesn't work for every shape, of course, but it's a good general rule for perimeters of squares.
