Given the cube below:

The net of the cube is shown below:

The area of each square face is


\begin{gathered} area\text{ of square = L}^2 \\ =2^2 \\ =4\text{ ft}^2 \end{gathered}

Since there are 6 square faces in the net, the surface area of the cube becomes


\begin{gathered} 6*4\text{ ft}^2 \\ =24\text{ ft}^2 \end{gathered}

Hence, using a net, the surface area of the cube is


24\text{ ft}^2
