A group of friends went bowling. It cost $5.50 for each to bowl. Then they also bought a pizza for $6.75. If the total cost of their bowling night was $39.75, how many friends went bowling?

i write an equation for the statement

T=5.50f+6.75

Where T is the total and f the number of friends, 5.50 the cost per each bowl and 6.75 the pizza for everyone

so replacing the total

39.75=5.50f+6.75

now solve f

\begin{gathered} 5.50f=39.75-6.75 \\ 5.50f=33 \\ f=(33)/(5.50) \\ \\ f=6 \end{gathered}

the number of friends was 6
