The table shows the number of cakes sold each year for 5 years.

To find the approximate number of cakes sold each year, the average of the number of cakes sold for the five years has to be found.

This referred to as the mean.

It is calculated by dividing the total number of cakes sold by the number of years

\text{Mean = }\frac{Total\text{ number of cakes sold}}{\text{Number of years}}

Total number of cakes sold = 21 + 28 + 19 + 26 + 21

Total number of cakes sold = 115

Number of years = 5

Mean = 115/5

Mean = 23
