We will want to use the Pythagorean theorem to solve
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
the hypotenuse, longest line, will be c
8^2 + b^2 = 17^2
64 + b^2 = 289
We will then subtract 64 from both sides
b^2 = 225
we will then square both sides
b = 15 kilometers
