How do you begin isolating the variable x to one side of the equation in the following equation?-2=1/6x-12

1) Given the equation, the first step is to determine whether are we going to add or subtract in order to isolate the x variable

-2 = 1/6x -12 In this case let's add 12 to both sides so that we can cancel 12

-2 +12=1/6x -12+12

10 = 1/6x +0

10 = 1/6x Multiply the whole equation by 6 to get rid of the fraction

10 = 1/6 x x 6

60 =x

x =60

2) Hence the answer is to find out which number can be canceled by adding or subtracting and then do it.
