Given a pair of points on a straight line

To Determine: The slope of the line

Solution:

The slope formula given two points is

s=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

The given points are

\begin{gathered} (-3,1),\mleft(6,1\mright) \\ x_1=-3,y_1=1 \\ x_2=6,y_2=1 \end{gathered}

Substitute the given points into the formula to find the slope

\begin{gathered} s=(1-1)/(6--3) \\ s=(0)/(6+3) \\ s=(0)/(9) \\ s=0 \end{gathered}

The slope of the line is 0

Please note that a zero slope is just the slope of a horizontal line. The y-coordinate never changes no matter what the x-coordinate is.

Hence, the slope of the line is 0
