The area of the composite figure can be determined as,


\begin{gathered} A=12\text{ in}*5\text{ in+}(\pi r^2)/(2) \\ =60in^2+\frac{\pi*(\frac{5\text{ in}}{2})^2}{2} \\ =69.81in^2 \end{gathered}

Thus, the required area of the composite figure is 69.81 square inches.

The area of the composite figure can be determined as,


\begin{gathered} A=(16in)^2+(8in)^2 \\ A=256in^2+64in^2 \\ A=320in^2 \end{gathered}

Thus, the required area of the composite figure is 320 square inches.
