Given:

Price of sweater = $30

December price increased = 20%

Price increased by 40%

Find-: Price of sweater in-store now.

Sol:

December price is :

Price increased = 20%

If the price is 100 then the increased price is 120

For $30.

\begin{gathered} =(120)/(100)*30 \\ \\ =12*3 \\ \\ =36 \end{gathered}

December price is $36.

Then the price increased 40%

\begin{gathered} \text{ price 100 then increased price =140} \\ \\ \text{ if price 1 then increased price = }(140)/(100) \\ \\ \text{ price is 36 then increased price =}(140)/(100)*36 \\ \\ =(14)/(10)*36 \\ \\ =50.4 \end{gathered}

So $50.4 is a sweater price is now.
