Apartment 2

costs ---------- $ 300 security deposit + $1000/month in rent

let the number of months for equality in cost be x

so that for equality

costs of apartment 1 = cost of apartment 2

$600 + $850x = $300 + $1000x

$600-$300 = $1000x - $ 850x

$300 = 150x

300/150 = 150x/150

x= 2 months

Check

Apartment 1 = 600 + 850(2) = $2300

Apartment 2 = 300 + 1000(2) =$2300

So answer therefore = 2 months
