According to the figure,

PT = y

TR = 3x + 1

QT = 3y

TS = 7x + 9

Sum of all the angles in a parallelogram is 360 degrees

Sum of all the angles in a triangle is 180

PT + QT = 180

y + 3y = 180

4y = 180

Divide both sides by 4

4y/4 = 180/4

y = 180/4

y = 45

To find the value of x

TR + TS = 180

3x + 1 + 7x + 9 = 180

Collect the like terms

3x + 7x + 9 + 1 = 180

10x + 10 = 180

10x = 180 -10

10x = 170

Divide both sides by 10

10x/10 = 170/10

x = 17

Therefore, x = 17 and y = 45
