To solve the equation for a, add 3 to both sides of the equation

\begin{gathered} -3a-3+3=-2n+3p+3 \\ -3a=-2n+3p+3 \end{gathered}

Now divide by -3 into both sides of the equation

\begin{gathered} (-3a)/(-3)=(-2n+3p+3)/(-3) \\ a=(-2n)/(-3)+(3p)/(-3)+(3)/(-3) \\ a=(2n)/(3)-p-1 \end{gathered}
