Solution

For this case the best option would be 2 and the reason is this one:

We need three dimensions and the possibility that the lines converge in the first case is not likely to create any regular prism, in the other hand in the case 2 is easier

If we want to calculate the surface area for this case we can do this:

1) Calculate the area of the lower layer

2) Calculate the area of the surface layer

3) Calculate the area of the lateral layers

And then add all the 3 amounts and we got the total surface area
