The Toronto raptors equipment manager wants to purchase 50 pairs of basketball shoes and would like them each to be either adidas or rebook. The adidas shoe design costs $400 per pair, while the rebook shoe design costs $450 per pair. She has exactly $30000 to spend. What are the linear equations associated to the word problem? Define the variable

SOLUTION

Write out the given information

\begin{gathered} \text{Total shoes=50} \\ \text{Addidas cost=\$400} \\ \text{Rebook cost=\$450} \\ \text{Amount to spend=\$30 000} \end{gathered}

Hence

Let define the unknow parameters

\begin{gathered} x=\text{number of rebook} \\ y=\text{ number of Adidas } \end{gathered}

The define varibles for the problem are

x = number of rebook and y = Number of adidas

The we have the resulting equation

\begin{gathered} x+y=50 \\ 450x+400y=30000 \end{gathered}

The linear equations associated to the word problem are

x+y = 50

And

450x + 400y = 30 000
