recently I took a trip to a big city and I happened to take my clinonometer with me. I stood 350 feet away from a building and found the angle of elevation to be 55 degrees. if my eye height is 5 feet, to the nearest hundredth how tall is the building

The situation is shown in the above picture.

From definition:

\tan (angle)=\frac{opposite\text{ side}}{adjacent\text{ side}}

From the picture:

\begin{gathered} \tan (55)=(x)/(350) \\ \tan (55)\cdot350=x \\ 500\text{ ft = x} \end{gathered}

Then, the height of the building is 500 + 5 = 505 ft
