Given:

Shadow is 5 feet long

Angle of elivation is 50 degree

Required:

To determine the lamppost is how much feet tall

Step-by-step explanation:

We will use our trigo knowledge to solve this.

The man is standing 10 away, but we also need to add the 5

shadow as well as that is a point on our triangle .

We can set up a simple trig equation of:

\begin{gathered} tan(50)=(x)/(15) \\ \\ \end{gathered}

x being the height of the lamppost.

Now we can solve

\begin{gathered} tan\text{ \lparen50\rparen=1.1918} \\ \\ 1.1918*15=x \\ \\ x=17.876 \\ \\ Now\text{ round to the nearest foot .} \\ \\ x\approx18 \end{gathered}

Required answer:

x is approximately equal to 18
