Mr. Jay has a rectangular yard that he drew a diagonal down. He wants to put a fence up on the diagnol but needs to know how long it should be. The base of the rectangular yard is 50 feet, and the height is 60 feet. How long should the diagonal fence be?

I’m assuming the diagonal is inside the rectangle. Thus we can use Pythagoras theorem to solve it.


a² + b² = c²

A is 50 and b is 60 so just sub in the values.


√(50² + 60²) = c


C is roughly 78.1 when rounded to two decimal places
