A one -to-one function has to pass both the horizontal line test as well as the vertical line test

( vertical line test to be a function)

(horizontal line test to be one to one)

x^2 -2 is a vertical parabola

We know it is a function because it will pass the vertical line test

This will not pass the horizontal line test, so it is not one to one
