SOLUTION

The given points are:

P(-8,3),Q(6,5)

Recall the distance formula:

d=√((x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2)

Using the distance formula, the distance between P and Q is:

\begin{gathered} d=√((6-(-8))^2+(5-3)^2) \\ d=√(14^2+2^2) \\ d=√(200) \\ d=14.14 \end{gathered}

Therefore the distance between P and Q is about 14.14

Recall the midpoint formula:

((x_1+x_2)/(2),(y_1+y_2)/(2))

Using the midpoint formula, the midpoint of P and Q is:

\begin{gathered} ((-8+6)/(2),(3+5)/(2)) \\ =((-2)/(2),(8)/(2)) \\ =(-1,4) \end{gathered}

Therefore the midpoint of P and Q is (-1,4).
