Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) has a density of 1.11g/cm3 What is the mass in g of 417 mL of this liquid?What is the volume in L of 4.1 kg of this liquid?

Density is a way of measuring how much of something we have in a determined space or volume, and it is also widely used in Chemistry, the way to calculate density is by dividing the mass of the substance by the volume:

ρ = m/v

In the first part of the question we have 1.11 g/cm3 of density and a volume of 417 mL (or cm3), so we need to use these values in our formula

1.11 = m/417

m = 463 grams of Ethylene glycol

In the second part of the question again the same 1.11 g/cm3 density, but now a mass of 4.1 kg, or 4100 grams of liquid, same steps here

1.11 = 4100/v

1.11v = 4100

v = 3700 cm3 or mL, it is possible to round up 3693 because we will only need two significant numbers in the answer, therefore 3700
