Evaluate:

$-b-\sqrt[]{b^2-4ac}$

For a = 1, b = -10, and c = 9

Substituting:

$-(-10)-\sqrt[]{(-10)^2-4(1)(9)}$

Operating:

$\begin{gathered} 10-\sqrt[]{100-36} \\ 10-\sqrt[]{64} \\ 10-8 \\ 2 \end{gathered}$

Result: 2
