First, we have to select the points which belong to the interval, they must be x1=2, y1 = 56 and x2=4, y2 = 32

Then we use the formula for the average rate, which is

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)=(32-56)/(4-2)=(-24)/(2)=-12

The average rate would be -12
