An exponential function is a mathematical function of the form:

f(x)=a^x

Where a > 0 and x is a Real Number.

To tell from the equation if is a exponential growth, we need to look at the sign of x:

Exponential growth:

If x > 0

Exponential decay:

If x < 0

Now an example of exponential growth could be:

a^3

And an example of exponential decay could be:

a^(-3)
