You have the next data:

GH=x+6

HI=x+5

GI=3x+8

If the point G is on the line GI you have:

Then you can see that the segment GI is equal to the add of the segment GH and HI:

GI=GH+GI

Then:

3x+8=x+6+x+5

To find the value of the x you:

1. Make the opperations (additions) knowing that you can only add numbers with the same variable or numbers without variable, as follow:

3x+8=(x+x)+(6+5)

You get:

3x+8=2x+11

Now you can clear the x, as follow:

Now you know the value of the x=3

You find the numerical length of GH, substituting x for its value:

GH=x+6=3+6=9Then so, the numerical lenght of GH is 9

Point H is on line segment GI. Given GH = x + 6,HI = x + 5. and GI 3x + 8, determine-example-1
