When we divide a decimal number by:
![10^3](https://img.qammunity.org/2023/formulas/mathematics/high-school/23vpajbyo67g6osr0txi657v7o1xoxp509.png)
If when we multiply by a power of 10, we move the decimal point to the left, when we divide by a powe of 10, we move the decimal point to the right the number of times that the exponent indicates.
For example:
![(0.5)/(10^3)=(0.5)/(1000)=0.0005](https://img.qammunity.org/2023/formulas/mathematics/college/cb1ljqwtr85kw7j0dbuh1gcz271cgcp56a.png)
From 0.5 to 0.0005 we moved the decimal point 3 times to the right.
Answer: three times to the right
