We have two points: (2,7) and (-4,y).

We have to find the value of y so that the line that passes through both points is m = 1/2.

We can define a slope that passes through two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) as:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)=(y-7)/(-4-2)=(y-7)/(-6)

As the slope is m = 1/2 we can find the value of y as:

\begin{gathered} m=(1)/(2) \\ (y-7)/(-6)=(1)/(2) \\ y-7=-(6)/(2) \\ y-7=-3 \\ y=-3+7 \\ y=4 \end{gathered}

Answer: y = 4
