To calculate the lenght of a line segment we should remember that the distance between two points is:

d(M,N)=\sqrt[]{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2_{}}

In this case, we have

\begin{gathered} d(S,T)=\sqrt[]{(7-1)^2+(-9-8)^2} \\ =\sqrt[]{(6)^2+(-17)^2} \\ =\sqrt[]{36+289} \\ =\sqrt[]{325} \\ =18.02 \end{gathered}

So that the length of the line segment is 18.02
