Let's use the distributive property on the left-hand side to expand and then simplify the whole equation. The process is shown below:


\begin{gathered} 8(x-8)+33=8x-31 \\ 8x-64+33=8x-31 \\ 8x-31=8x-31 \end{gathered}

As you can see, they are basically the same for both sides!
