A) For 300 mi of city driving plus 100 mi of highway driving:

Toyota Prius will need

\frac{300\text{ mi}}{54\text{ mi/gal}}+\frac{100\text{ mi}}{50\text{ mi/gal}}=5.6\text{gal}+2\text{gal}=7.6\text{gal}

Toyota Yaris will need

\frac{300mi}{30\text{ mi/gal}}+\frac{100mi}{36\text{ mi/gal}}=10gal+2.8gal=12.8gal

B) For 100 mi of city driving plus 300 mi of highway driving:

Toyota Prius will need

\frac{100mi}{54\text{ mi/gal}}+\frac{300mi}{50\text{ mi/gal}}=1.9gal+6gal=7.9gal

Toyota Yaris will need

\frac{100mi}{30\text{ mi/gal}}+\frac{300mi}{36\text{ mi/gal}}=3.3gal+8.3gal=11.6\text{gal}
