slope-intercept equation:

y=mx+b

Where:

m= slope

b= y-intercept

Parallel lines have the same slope, so:

2x+y=5

y= -2x+5

m=-2

We have so far:

y=-2x+b

Replace x,y by the coordinates of the point given (-3,14) and solve for b:

14= -2(-3)+b

14 = 6+b

14-6=b

8=b

Final equation:

y= -2x+8
