A sheet of paper is cut into 2 same-size parts. Each of the parts is then cut into 2 same-size parts and so on. a. After the 4th cut, how many of thesmallest pieces of paper are there?

Solving step by step we have:

After cutting the first time we get 2 parts.

After cutting the second time we get 4 parts.

After cutting the third time we get 8 parts.

After cutting the fourth time we get 16 parts.

The answer is 16 small parts.
