Answer: The coordinates of the pre-image is A(8 , -3)Explanations

According to the description of the question, the pre-image A was translated 4 units to the right(i.e on the x - axis) and 4 units down (i.e. on the y-axis) to form the image B(12, -7)

Let the coordinate of the pre-image be A(x, y)

The coordinates of the image: B(12, -7)

Note:

1. A transalation to the right means addition on the x-axis while a translation to the left means subtraction

2. A translation up means addition on the y axis, while a translation down means subtraction

Since the preimage on Point A was translated to the right on the x - axis by 4 units:

x + 4 = 12

x = 12 - 4

x = 8

Since the preimage on Point A was translated down on the y - axis by 4 units:

y - 4 = -7

y = -7 + 4

y = -3

The coordinates of the pre-image is therefore, A(8 , -3)
