To answer this kind of question we use the following formula for the distance between two points ( (x₁,y₁), (x₂,y₂)):


d=\sqrt[]{(x_1-x_2)^2+(y_1-y_2)^2}.

Substituting (x₁,y₁)=(-12,16), and (x₂,y₂)=(0,0) in the above formula we get:


d=\sqrt[]{(-12-0)^2+(16-0)^2}.

Simplifying the above result we get:


d=\sqrt[]{144+256}=\sqrt[]{400}=20.
