1 1/2 quarts of blue paint with 5 quarts of white paint produce a certain shade of light blue.

Then, the proportion between white and blue paint is:

1 1/2 = 1+1/2 = 3/2

5/(5/2) = 10/5 = 2

THe proportion is 2:1 white to blue paint.

If now, you have 4 quarts of blue paint and you want to get the same color.

To determine the amount of white paint, proceed as follow:

x/4 = 2/1 the proportion must be the same. Multiply by 4

x = 2(4)

x = 8

Hence, you need 8 quarts of white paint to obtain the same color.
