Many people are looking for ways to “go green” in their life, to reduce their impact on the environment. Solar appliances, such as ovens, are one way to do this. *What do you think would be the advantages of solar appliances?any disadvantages?

Since solar appliances uses solar power, the advantages of using them are

1) Green house effect is minimised since fuels are not burnt to power them.

2) The source of power is renewable. This means that the power for the appliances is readily available.

3) Pollution is reduced

4) They are safer than traditional powered appliances

The disadvantages include

1) The availability of power varies with time. It is reduced at night, winter periods because of lack of sunshine. This means that the usage of solar appliances would be limited during these periods.

2) High cost of installing solar power and batteries might be required to store power and this makes it to be more expensive.

3) The appliances may not be as efficient as traditionally powered appliances.
