We have that

(5x+7)+(15-x)=62

Then

5x+7+15-x=62\Rightarrow5x-x+7+15=62\Rightarrow4x+22=62
4x+22=62\Rightarrow4x=62-22\Rightarrow4x=40\Rightarrow x=(40)/(4)\Rightarrow x=10

We need to group similar terms. Then, we sum them algebraically.

We obtain 4x+22=62. We subtract 22 to both sides of the equation, and finally divide both sides of the equation by 4.
