To make 1 chocolate cake we need 2 1/2 cups of sugar.

Let us first convert the mixed fraction to a simple fraction.

2(1)/(2)=((2\cdot2)+1)/(2)=(4+1)/(2)=(5)/(2)

So to make 1 chocolate cake we need 5/2 cups of sugar.

To make 4 chocolate cakes we need how many cups of sugar?

Simply multiply the number of chocolate cakes with 5/2

4*(5)/(2)=(20)/(2)=10

Therefore, we need 10 cups of sugar to make 4 chocolate cakes.
