9y + 2(y + 6) > 5y – 24

Solving for y:

Use distributive property on the left hand side:

9y + 2y + 12 > 5y - 24

Add like terms on the left hand side:

11y + 12 > 5y - 24

Subtract 5y from both sides:

11y + 12 - 5y > 5y - 24 - 5y

6y + 12 > -24

Subtract 12 from both sides:

6y + 12 - 12 > -24 - 12

6y > -36

Divide both sides by 6:

6y/6 > -36/6

y > -6

The solution in interval notation is:

(-6, ∞)
